Speechless

Well, not really, I'm seldom left speechless but I came close on this one.
I am constantly shocked at what one human being can do to another. Just when you think you've seen it all something new and even more horrible comes to light. I'm talking about 2 year old Wang Yue. The poor little one was wondering alone in the road near her father's hardware store when she was hit by a van and left for dead in Guangdong Province in China. I first heard about this story last week and didn't want to read about it. It seemed so awful and now YueYue as she was called has died from her injuries.

I read that article on CNN.com and looked at the video. I wished I didn't. I haven't been the same since. I couldn't eat my dinner tonight and my heart is heavy. If you're brave check it out, scroll down the article and click on the middle of the three video clips. Thankfully it doesn't show her getting hit but does show the van coming. It didn't swerve or try to avoid this child at all. Then it shows her laying in the street with cars, motorcycles and pedestrians passing her by while she's laying there dying.

YueYue was eventually picked up by a 58 year old so called scavenger Chen Xianmei. When asked about what she did she answered, "I didn't think of anything at the time. I just wanted to save the girl". YueYue's mother Qu Feifei says she wants to "focus on the positive". I don't see what the positive is except that one person did the natural thing and went to the little girl's aid. The morally bankrupt animals who passed by her with hardly a glance have to live with themselves but something tells me if they could keep on going in the first place they won't be losing any sleep over their actions. How can a person be so apathetic? So soulless? So heartless?

China has a history of treating their female citizens like they're disposable. It's no secret that boys are the desired child. What country sanctions selective abortion if you find out the baby you're creating is female. Some who don't go the abortion route abandon the female infants. Researchers estimate that a million female fetuses are aborted each year.

Now China has a new problem; they have 20 million boys that will never marry because there are not enough girls for them. In 2005 they outlawed selective abortions and hoped that by 2010 the number of babies born would equal out. According to this site that hasn't happened. For every 118 boys born only 100 girls are born and the consequence of this is that in 20-25 years from now there still won't be enough brides for the amount of grooms. This will lead to a decrease in their population. Is this a bad thing? Maybe for China, I don't know about the rest of the world.

It makes me wonder if little YueYue was a boy would this have happened? I hope that she's in a peaceful, loving place.

Now don't get me started on the population explosion in India.
